Burke Hall 1961
Arrived at Xavier for 1st term 1968 only.
Remembered fondly for his vicious strapping of boys and hateful temperament.
A quick cameo performance, I wonder why

ex-student says:
"and then there was the suicide of "XXX" (name witheld) - who I know (witnessed) being abused as far back as grade three at Burke Hall
… being sat on the knee of Galbraith in front of the whole class".
two ex-students report:
"he lined the boys up after showers naked and checked if they were dry by running his finger in their bum cheeks crack".
After showers at Burke Hall each morning, we boarders had to stand completely naked as a group
while Dick Galbraith “inspected” us.
This itself none of us ever thought to be in any way out of line.
In the course of Galbraith’s inspection he would slide one finger between ones buttocks and say “dry it again O’Brien” or whoever.
The same friend who stutters says if he ever comes across Galbraith again he intends to also punch him in the face.
Biography:
From St. Ignatius, Toowong newsletter 2016
a very popular place to send and hide sex abusers.
Fr Richard Galbraith sj followed Fr Drury as Parish Priest (1973—74).
Fr Richard, “Call me Richard”, introduced Lay Ministers for Communion.
It was during his period as Parish Priest that the “Morrow” property was offered to the parish to purchase.
Fr Richard called a Parish Meeting and was quickly told to purchase same; and where would St Ignatius School be without it today!
Fr Richard became heavily involved in counselling troubled religious following Vatican II and suffered a stress related health failure.
He also suffered a lot of criticism from parishioners for his progressive ways , even being reported to the Bishop.
Father Richard later chose to leave the Order.
"stress related health failure", "progressive ways" - euphemisms for what?
